| 内容記述 | 本稿では，大衆文化や文化産業についての社会システム論的分析枠組みにおける「身体」の理論的位置づけを行った上で，日本発の大衆音楽アーティストとして欧米で最大の成功を収めたメタルダンスユニットBABYMETALを「身体性」の観点から分析する。身体は，様々な社会システムの力の流れが交差する結節点である。それはまた，媒質として社会的意味を帯びた「記号的身体」となり，消費システムが作動するための「意味の図式」を呼び起こすインタフェースとして機能する。BABYMETALのメンバーは，そのデビュー時には中学生と小学生であり，子どもあるいは少女としての身体性が重要な意味を有していた。そうした彼女らを，文化産業によって収奪される少女という「意味の図式」で理解する消費システムの作動を観察することができる。しかし，BABYMETALは少女という「記号的身体性」を喪失するという課題，あるいは「記号的身体」と「現象的肉体」との対立を乗り越えて，既存の「意味の図式」を揺るがしていった。BABYMETAL というプロジェクトを作り出した創作システムには，BABYMETALの「記号的身体」と「現象的肉体」との対立と克服というプログラムが織り込まれていた。そのような社会システムの作動が，BABYMETALが既存の「意味の図式」を揺るがす条件を形作ったのである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | This study describes how the body can be understood within the framework of a social systems theory analysis of popular culture and cultural industries. It also applies this theory to analyze how Japanese metal dance unit, BABYMETAL, has achieved success in Europe and the United States. In the theory of social systems, the body is understood to be a node where the power flows of various social systems intersect. The body functions as an interface through which people observe the world. The body is also understood as a "medium" or a "symbolic body" that bears social meaning to evoke a "semantic schema" through which a "consumption system" operates. The members of BABYMETAL were junior high and elementary school students at the time of their debut, and their youthful, feminine appearance was of great importance. It is possible to observe the system of consumption operating to situate these girls in the "semantic scheme" of those who are exploited by the cultural industry. However, BABYMETAL overcame the challenge of losing the "symbolic body" of girlhood, continued performing, and achieved success. This means that they present a different "semantic schema" from the girls who are exploited by the cultural industry. The members of BABYMETAL understood themselves as a project formed and operated by the media and cultural industry, and they knowingly positioned themselves within it. Using a social systems theory understanding of the body, the author identifies characteristics of the system that created BABYMETAL to elucidate both how the fantasy of the group and the reality for members growing up is woven into the operations of the system. | |||||
