| 内容記述 | 19世紀のイギリスでは、王室の実質的な権威が低下するのと反比例して、スペクタクルとしての王室の式典の重要性が高まっていったとされる。多くの歴史家は王室の式典が帝国に歴史的な威光を付与し、国民を一つにする象徴的役割を担ったと論じている。そこで、本論ではヴィクトリア朝を代表する視覚メディア、『イラストレイティッド・ロンドン・ニュース』がどのようにジュビリーを表象し、王室の象徴的役割を具現化したのかを検討した。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This essay aims at examining the representation of two Queen Victoria's jubilee celebrations, the Golden Jubilee in 1887 and the Diamond Jubilee in 1897 in the Illustrated London News (ILN). It has been argued that the spectacle of royal ceremonies acquired more importance as the political power of the monarch waned. Queen Victoria's jubilees had a symbolical function of attaching the monarch historical luster and uniting the nation and the empire. This essay examines the way in which one of the most popular media of the day, the ILN, represented the jubilees and materialized the symbolical function of the monarch. | |||||||||||
