| 内容記述 | これまでの筆者のジョージ・ミュラー研究では，ドイツ敬虔主義との関連，英国初期ブラザレン運動との関係，山室軍平，石井十次ら日本への影響について明らかにしてきたが，その思想と事業の全体像や孤児院創設の動機を解明するためには，ミュラー自身の主観的な内的世界の理解が必要であり，生い立ちの分析が不可欠である。そこで本論では，ミュラーの誕生から孤児院創設に至る軌跡（1805-1835）を日誌，書簡，機関誌，自叙伝をもとに分析した。分析対象期間は，孤児院創設に至るまでの青年時代に限定して，彼の迷走，回心，訓練，孤児院着想に焦点をあてた。時期区分については，ミュラーの内的世界に迫るために，自叙伝の区分を踏襲した。これらを通して，これまで断片的であった孤児院創設に至る着想とその動機を時系列的に再配置したうえで再検討した。それによってミュラーの思想形成過程とその内的世界観が繋がり，彼の事業と思想の全体像が鮮明になった。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | George Müller, the founder of the Bristol Orphanage, does not figure in the academic literature, although there are many biographies of him as a "great man of faith." I go beyond the conventional framework and proceed with the discussion of a research topic in the history of welfare thought as "George Müller research." Müller's relationship with Juji Ishii and Gunpei Yamamuro, his connection with German pietism and the early Brethren movement in Britain, and the impact of his life on Japan are already known to readers. Based on these points, this paper traces the trajectory from the birth of Müller to the establishment of the orphanage (1805-1835), using his diary, his letters, his autobiography, and a journal of the Bristol Orphanage as the primary material. It does not deal with the historical facts of the orphanage years after 1835 ; instead, it focuses on the straying, conflicts, and the conversion of his adolescence leading up to the establishment of the orphanage. The periodization will be described, as far as possible, along the time axis of his inner world, based on his autobiography. | |||||||||||||
