Their research suggests a gap between the talent development policies of Japanese companies and the career plans of non-Japanese students in Japan and points to the need for improving the government and practical use of qualified international students in Japanese companies. As Japanese companies globalize and continue to expand overseas, these companies must also begin hiring international workers who have not studied in Japan. This research, using surveys of Chinese students both in Japan and China, focuses on the perspective of Chinese students towards Japanese companies in the context of Japanese hiring practices. The results of the surveys show significant differences between the image of Japanese companies held by Chinese students in Japan and students in China. Although neither group expressed a strong desire to work for Japanese companies, preferring instead Western or Chinese companies, Chinese students in Japan held a more favorable image of Japanese companies.
