| 内容記述 | 本稿は、明治初年に実施された旧藩札と新貨との交換(藩札整理)の実態について数量分析の立場から明らかにすることを狙いとしており、次のような興味深い事実を見出した。藩札の新貨との交換価格は各地における金銀銭相場を基準にして全国一律のルールにしたがって藩ごとに個別に決定されたが、届相場が九六銭12貫500文以下となった諸藩発行の銭札・銀札については、全国一律に1貫文8銭あるいは100文当たり8厘、市場実勢との比較において2～3割ほど割安な水準で新貨に交換された。明治政府が承継した藩札債務は3855万円から最終的には2493万円に更生減額されたが、その8割は先に掲げた交換価格の設定方法に由来する。そうであるがゆえに、大蔵省としても「官吏を派遣し精密な調査を行った結果、諸藩から報告のあった藩札の流通価格が大きく減額されたため」としか説明できなかったのであろう。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | At the beginning of the Meiji period, hansatsu, a form of paper money issued by the local clan government in the Edo period, were still used as a medium of exchange. Therefore, exchanging them for the new unified currency was a critical and urgent task for the government. This paper aimed to quantitatively examine this exchange process and clarified the following facts: (a) The exchange price of each hansatsu was set according to the local exchange rate in terms of gold, silver, and copper coins. (b) For the hansatsu denominated by copper and silver coins and whose value exceeded a specific level, an exchange price of 8 rin per 100 mon was set; such hansatsu accounted for 85% of the total. (c) The above price was lower than the market price by approximately 20%–30%. This resulted in the reduction of the hansatsu-based debts from \3,855millin to \2,493million. | |||||||||||
