| 内容記述 | 本稿では、新渡戸と内村の門下生の働きについて概観し、特に前田多門の民主主義教育について分析することを目的とする。前田は戦後初の文部大臣として戦後教育の道筋を決定したが、戦時に見られたようなファシズムから社会を守るためには個人性、人格の発達が急務であると考えていた。彼は、神との「縦の関係性」と他の人々との「横の関係性」こそが自己の確立には必要であると主張したが、「高次の存在」と自己との親密性・近接性を説く点で、自己の確立において反照的に必要とされる他者性を喪失し、縦の関係性を見失った教えを説くようになる。この点で、個人性、人格の確立の必要性という彼の主張と実質的な思想的内実とが矛盾を引き起こしていることを明らかにする。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This article reviews the achievements of the followers of Nitobe and Uchimura, and analyzes the work of Tamon Maeda on his philosophy of democratic education. Maeda was a leading figure in establishing post-war education. He believed that the development of individuality and personality was urgently needed to protect Japanese society against the type of fascism during the war. He emphasized thta vertical relationships with God and horizontal relationships with others are both important for the establishment of the self. Neverthless, his belief lacked the dimension of the vertical relationship for he claimed the self can be intimately united with a High Being. In this regard, Maeda's thoughts and beliefs were contradictory in terms of the necessity of the self-establishment. | |||||||||||
