secularism)(主としてイスラエル人)を宗教的「ユダヤ教」(religious Judaism)にとっての対等のパートナーとして見ることに最も積極的な人物である。最初に20世紀のユダヤ人の宗教的考え方と宗教的思想家の目に映る世俗的ユダヤ人(secular Jew)と世俗的「ユダヤ教」(secular Judaism)の現状に関する他の思想家の見解について述べる。その後に、ハルトマンの著書に暗示されている世俗主義(secularism)についての様々な定義を、世俗主義の現象に対する彼の姿勢の変化と併せて示していく。世俗主義についてのハルトマンの様々な定義と世俗主義に対する彼の反応に沿ってこの考察を進めていくことにより、彼の宗教的思想から浮かびあがる重要な神学的革新が明らかになっていくであろう。世俗的「ユダヤ教」(secular
