With the remarkable progress in technologies such as electrification and automated driving, there is a need for a revolution in the way automobiles are used to solve social issues such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions and the number of fatalities and injuries in traffic accidents. In Japan, where the birthrate is declining and the population is aging rapidly, it is important to secure means of transportation for the increasing number of elderly people in order to improve their quality of life. In addition, the shortage of drivers who support logistics is a serious problem due to the decrease in the working-age population. In order to contribute tosolving social issues with automated driving, MaaS (Mobility as a service) that transports goods and people is considered to be highly feasible. This paper discusses the transportation efficiency of automated guided vehicles-inspired, based on the needs and current status of automated guided vehicles (AGVs), which are evolving intoautonomous mobile robots
