In this industry, the technology and the production system were arranged according to the conditions of material supply and product demand. Specifically, pig iron was selected as a major steelmaking material, and the demand for a small lot of medium and low grade products was strong. Although the Chinese iron and steel industry had the largest production volume globally, large-scale integrated production systems had not established a dominant position in its production structure. Integrated production systems with medium and small sized blast furnaces had the largest share.
