The purpose of this article is to accurately reveal the footprints of Müller's ministry in Japan (1886-1887) that have not been analyzed so far. We discuss the historical impact of Müller on Japanese Christianity and social welfare, and consequently clarify important historical facts about the acceptance of Müller by Japanese churches at that time. We also clarify that the content of Müller's sermons given at the Doshisha (its content was published as a booklet) influenced Gumpei Yamamuro and other social workers in the Meiji
