In this paper, we survey the brief history of the use of firewood and charcoal in Japan, and discuss the possibility that the recent deployment of a woody biomass power-generation enterprise has helped conserve forestry resources.  We also claim that regaining individual lifestyles of making use of fire will lead up to forest conservation.  Finally, we introduce the SATOYAMA conserving activities together with Prof.
