 note = {日本では森林の過小利用が問題となっている。本稿では日本における木質バイオマスのエネルギー利用についての歴史を概観した後、近年の木質バイオマス発電事業の展開が森林保全につながる可能性を事例を挙げながら論じる。さらに、日本人が失ってしまった火のある暮らしを取り戻すことが森林保全にも重要であることを述べる。最後に筆者らが室田教授とともに取り組んでいる関西文化学術研究都市内にある里山の保全活動を紹介する。, In Japan, the underutilization of woody biomass has undermined the soundness of forest.  In this paper, we survey the brief history of the use of firewood and charcoal in Japan, and discuss the possibility that the recent deployment of a woody biomass power-generation enterprise has helped conserve forestry resources.  We also claim that regaining individual lifestyles of making use of fire will lead up to forest conservation.
