However, Uwoki refused to synchronize Christianity with Japanese religious ideas and did not show the violent nationalism that other 'Japanese Christianity' used to display. He argued that the Japanese, in a different way from the West, contacted with the gospel based on their religious spirituality, and they developed the Japanese type of Christianity. His work may be regarded as an attempt of an indigenous theology in today's language.
