| 内容記述 | 本稿は、1900年代から1920年代におけるアメリカのシオニストらがシオニズム運動を通して、アメリカ・ユダヤ人としてのアイデンティティ形成にいかに対峙したかを考察するものである。具体的には、文化的シオニズムの提唱者として知られるアハッド・ハアム(Aḥad Haʽam, 1856-1927)のシオニズムとユダヤ教に関する理念がアメリカ・シオニズムへ受容されていった過程を概観する。また、アメリカ・ユダヤ人共同体はアメリカ社会への同化を目指していたことに加え、世俗化の波にさらされることで、異なる文化的背景が存立する状況下においてアイデンティティ・クライシスに直面していた。このような状況の中でアメリカ・シオニストらは、この問題の解決をシオニズム運動のなかに見出そうとしていたことに関しても取り上げる。本稿では、アハッド・ハアムのシオニズム思想に影響を受けた三人の人物に焦点を当てる。初期のアメリカ・シオニズム指導者の一人、ユダ・L・マグネス(Judah L. Magnes, 1877-1948)、および再建派ユダヤ教の提唱者である、モルデカイ・M・カプラン(Mordecai M. Kaplan, 1881-1983)、さらに、文化多元主義の提唱者であるホレス・M・カレン(Horace M. Kallen, 1882-1974)らのユダヤ教の捉え方、および「文化」、「ユダヤ教」(Judaism)の用語を手がかりに、アメリカ化された文化的シオニズムの特徴を浮き彫りにする。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This paper examines how American Zionists faced the problem of constructing an American Jewish identity through Zionist activity from the 1900s to the 1920s. In particular, I focus on the historical background of how American Zionism inherited its ideals of Zionism and Judaism from Aḥad Haʽam, who was known as an advocate of Cultural Zionism. Moreover, this paper discusses the factors involved in American Zionist attempts to find a solution to the identity crisis in American Jewish society and in Jewish assimilation into mainstream US society. By focusing on three personalities who were influenced by the Cultural Zionist ideals of Aḥad Haʽam, I identify the features of Americanized Zionism in terms of its approach to the concepts of "culture" and "Judaism". In particular, I focus on Judah L. Magnes (1877–1948), a leader of the American Zionists, Mordecai M. Kaplan (1881– 1983), an advocate of Reconstructionism, and Horace M. Kallen (1882–1974), an advocate of multiculturalism. | |||||||||||
