In this article, I discuss what impacts were had on the members of idol groups (performers) and how their performances were related to regional promotion, using the framework of performance studies and having semi-structured interviews with regional idols and their stakeholders. Refer to Schechner’s theory about the functions of performance (2006), the performances of regional idols have mainly four functions for performers: to entertain, to mark or change identity, to make or foster community, and to teach, persuade, or convince. At the same time, this implies the potential for the empowerment of young
