However, there has been no report dealing with design method of its synchronous motor for a rotary axis or a spindle in machine tools. In the present report, we propose a novel method to design a synchronous motor for a rotary axis in machine tools based on quality engineering. The CAE (computer aided engineering) is combined with quality engineering to develop a direct drive motor for a rotary axis of machine tools.
