Jewish theologian Leo Baeck, who was stimulated by Harnack's book, wrote \"What is Judaism?\" (Das Wesen des Judentums) in order to dispel Christian misunderstandings and prejudices about Judaism, especially the view that Judaism represents the dark historical background out of which Christianity emerged. Even though Harnack and Baeck never met in person, and both \"What is Christianity?\" and \"What is Judaism?\" are written as monologues, some people suggest these pieces can be read as a form of dialogue between Christianity and Judaism.
