| 内容記述 | 本論文は、1989年に可決に至った国立アメリカ・インディアン博物館(NMAI)の設立法案の審議過程を、同時期に審議されながらも不成立に終わった黒人に特化した国立博物館の設立法案と比較検討することを通じて、NMAI設立法案の可決・成立の背景を明らかにした。具体的には、1)コレクションや建設候補地の有無、2)専門委員会と仲介者的人物の存在、3)「先住民」の特殊性―を取り上げて比較検討をし、NMAI設立法案の方が全体的に有利な状況の下で審議され、可決に至ったことを示した。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Since the Grand Opening in 2004 of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), many scholars have focused on the operations of Native American initiatives in the NMAI and the representation of NMAI exhibits; others have considered the enactment of the NMAI bill in the context of the repatriation movement of Native American human remains and cultural objects. By contrast, this article reconsiders the congressional debates and social contexts which led to the enactment of the NMAI bill in 1989. To do so, we compare the evolution of the NMAI bill with that of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) bill, which failed to pass in the 1990s, but eventually passed in 2003. | |||||||||||
