We established a longitudinal profile along the river’s thalweg and transverse sections at every 200 m intervals from its confluence with the Katsura and Uji rivers to the 30 km upstream at every other year. And we investigated changes in the riverbed along the profile and sections during the study period. We obtained four main results. (1) Overall, the riverbed had eroded along the whole length of the channel. Erosion was greater in the lower reaches and seemed work upstream over time. This result suggests that the erosion was likely caused by excavation at the low-flow channel along the lower Yodo River. (2) Erosion had been dominant along straight and narrow channels, especially along the low-flow channel where the flow was low during non-flood period. (3) Sedimentation had been relatively dominant where the channel is broad and curved. During floods, sedimentation occurred in both in low-flow and higher flood channels. (4) Crevasse splay had formed along the levees and bank overflow events had happened in the past where sedimentation was dominant. Curved parts of the river, therefore, are at high risk for flood
