Previous studies have been inclined to regard the struggle with anguish as a phenomenon of a divided self, in other words, the conflict between \"the self of the intent to agree with the law\" and \"the conduct against the intent.\" Also, this struggle has been evaluated as showing \"a pang of conscience,\" or \"introspective conscience.\" However, we should refrain from understanding the text, which was written about 50 CE, only in light of post-Enlightenment modern anthropology. This article investigates the text in light of apocalyptic eschatology in ancient Judaism, in particular dualism of the spirit and flesh with the eschatological tension between \"already\" and \"not yet.\" This investigation will demonstrate the role of the cosmological dimension in Paul's moral reasoning, a dimension to which the previous studies have not paid full attention. In moral reasoning, there is, along with the eschatological tension, a conflict between the opposing cosmological forces(spirit vs flesh), a conflict that we cannot explicate only in light of human psychological
