We find that three factors enabled the family to continue trading in the Kanto region for more than 260 years. The first is that the family focused on the brewing industry as its main business, which provided a secure market across vast geographical areas in Japan. The second factor is that family members were bound together in business and that their successors were brilliant business managers. The final one is that the Komori family made various social contributions and that its trading aimed to benefit local
