Rockefeller I began in order to keep a promise that he would contribute tithes and make other donations. This promise was made with his mother, Eliza, who was a Baptist. He was influenced by his mother's teachings, activities at the church, and the essay \"Wealth\" written by Carnegie. With his knowledge, he improved the methods of making contributions. His improvements included forming the Four Rules for Donations and creating the Difficult Art in Giving together with Gates and Rockefeller II for wise tithes and contributions.
