| 内容記述 | 本研究では、談話標識wellが会話内の譲歩において発話間のスタンス関係を調整することで参与者間の相互関係維持のためのスタンスマネジメント機能を担うことを示した。Du Bois (2007)のスタンス理論により譲歩における発話間のスタンス関係を図式化し、wellが逆接等位接続詞butと共起しながらスタンス関係を調整するプロセスを明らかにした。様々な修辞的譲歩様式のうち主に響鳴、語彙的同意、条件付き同意を含む譲歩形式がwellを伴っており、これらにより話者は相手との提携を維持しながらスタンスを調整することで意見の一致・不一致を巧みに表明している。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This study argues that the discourse marker well fulfills a crucial role in conversational concession in terms of interactional management, by demonstrating how well as a "stance marker" (Sakita 2013) regulates the stance relations in concession. In Du Bois's (2007) theoretical framework of stance, I analyze stance divergence in rhetorical concession and analyze how well regulates stance relations when paired with the adversative coordinating conjunction but. Three variations of rhetorical concession prefaced by well are examined: (1) The conceding move takes a form of resonance; (2) the conceding move expresses an approval lexically; and (3) the concession involves a form of conditional agreement. Concession, in which a speaker manipulates agreement and disagreement to occur within one response, is a pertinent context for well to play a significant role in stance negotiation. | |||||||||||
