Focal points of migration are the three metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Keihanshin (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe) and Nagoya, as well as local prefectural capitals. People from the lower middle class and the lower class, especially people from villages created communities of people from the same hometown (Hometown- Based Associations, called \"Dokyo-Kai\" in Japanese) that helped and supported one another. I found 1890 hometown-based associations at the end of 20 century in my research. The majority of those were connected to rural areas such as Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Sannin, South-Shikoku , South-Kyushu and
