| 内容記述 | 本稿の目的は、20 世紀半ばのマラヤ(マレーシア)を事例に、アズハル機構の近代化とアズハル留学の主流化がイスラーム宗教学校の近代化に直接的、間接的に深く関連してきたことを明らかにすることである。スンナ派イスラームの知の拠点であるアズハルへの留学を通じた国際的ネットワーク形成および思想の伝達についての先行研究は多いが、アズハル機構の制度的変化自体が各地の宗教教育に与えた影響についてはほとんど考察されていない。宗教教育の近代化は一般に植民地支配あるいは近代国家による宗教管理の重要な施策とされるが、1960 年代までのマレーシア政府はイギリスの教育政策の影響を残し、宗教学校に対して基本的に不干渉の立場をとってきた。しかし、民間のイスラーム学校はアズハルをモデルに自主的に宗教学習を「学校」の形式に再編し、結果として後の政府によるカリキュラムの統一化、宗教学校国立化等の積極的管理政策への素地を用意することとなった。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This article aims to show how the modernization of al-Azhar and the mainstreaming among Malay Muslims to study at al-Azhar related to the modernization of Islamic religious schools in Malaysia(Malaya)in mid-20th century. Al-Azhar as the center of knowledge of Sunni Islam has attracted huge number of foreign students for centuries and many studies has done on the role of them. While many of those studies focus on the formation of international networks or the transmission of ideas, little has been done on the influence of institutional transformation of al-Azhar on the Islamic religious education in the other part of the world. Modernization of religious education was often done as crucial tool to control religion for governments, either colonial or modern nation states. One of the main motivation for modernization of al-Azhar was also the will of the government to control religion and religious scholars (ulama). However in the case of Malaysia, the government succeeded the British principle of noninterference to the Islamic religious schools until 1960s. In spite of this noninterference, many of the private Islamic schools led by individual ulama voluntarily transferred the religious studies into the form of modern schools by taking al-Azhar as their model. This voluntary transformation following al-Azhar was caused by the increase of the number of Malay students continue their study in al-Azhar and of the popularity and authority of al-Azhar in the Malay society. The modernization of Islamic religious school followed al-Azhar model was a result of the expansion of international movement of people and idea. However it also worked as preparation for active interference and control of the government after late 1960s such as unification of curriculum and nationalization of religious schools. | |||||||||||
