This study investigated three standpoints concerning independent living. The investigations focused on the following: (1) the first standpoint related to the reform of local communities; (2) the second standpoint focused on the aim to remove the handicapped from asylums where they were typically cared for and to seek social security care provision as a replacement; and (3) the third standpoint was concerned with the demands for the establishment of a disability pension and accommodation options that facilitated communal living because a handicapped person's subject formation was considered
