Bills of exchange were used as a means of settlement in the British slave trade. Commission agents played a key role in this system by accepting slave bills drawn in the West Indies. This financial system made for a more secure and assured means of slave payment than before. This paper presents accumulated studies on British slave trade and also examines the perspective of these researches with regard to the commission
