| 内容記述 | アルフレッド・マーシャルが「産業集積」の機能に言及して以来、この概念はしばしば好まれてきたが、生産技術の移転の問題に矮小化されてきた。本稿は、1860年代の書簡を利用しながら、南ウェールズの製鉄産業集積の代表的企業ダウライス製鉄会社とその補助産業の役目を果たした地方鉄道会社の関係という事例をつうじて、産業集積の多様な側面に光をあてるものである。とくに本稿は、両者の関係のなかでも三つの側面―日常的な取引関係、事故や遅配などの諸問題、そして問題解決によって長期的関係が確立される過程―を扱い、マーシャルの言う「産業集積」の一典型として両者の相互依存的な関係を描くものである。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Ever since Alfred Marshall referred to the functions of "industrial districts," the idea has often been applied to the innovation and diffusion of productive techniques. This article examines the various functions of industrial districts through a case study of the Dowlais Iron Company, a representative of the south Wales iron industry, and its subsidiaries, that is local railway companies, using the correspondence between the company and its subsidiaries in the 1860s. In particular, this article considers three aspects of the relationship between the iron manufacturer and its subsidiaries, namely, daily trades, problems encountered, and the company's solution toward establishing a long-term relation, and shows their mutually dependent relationship as a type of Marshall's "industrial districts." | |||||||||||
