This paper focuses on the period after the formation of modern nation-states and clarifies the inseparable relationship between the indigenization of faith and nationalism. At the same time, I will examine some theological frameworks to consider nationalism and verify their validities in the tensions between secular and religious nationalism. I would also like to point out the problems of modernist discourses that have repeatedly appeared in discussions on indigenization as well as contextualization. These attempts will clarify what the theology of religions has excluded from its view of religion and suggest that what has been relegated to the fringe of religion is paradoxically worthy of consideration. In conclusion I suggest that a theology of religion must be embodied in the critical and seamless horizon with a theology of monotheistic religions as well as contextual
