This study is based on the recently collected set of data from the author's fieldwork, and on the diversity found in the way old folk songs are recorded in the four main villages. In the dialect of Ishigaki city centre high central vowel /i/ is disappearing and lenition of /p/ is observed. The accent varieties are diversified and preserved in tandem with the religious, farming and singing
