DAIKOKUYA MATABE came from Shimohuri-mura, Goshu( Shiga-prefecture),took an active part in HURUTE (used clothes), GOHUKU (Kimono fabric) business. He started his business as an used clothes dealer in the early years of 18th century in EDO. He succeeded in his business as was placed on ranking lists of wealthy merchants in EDO region. But the research on DAIKOKUYA MATABE has not progressed very far.
