| 内容記述 | この久米桂一郎のエッセイは、1895年の第四回内国勧業博覧会開催時に、パリの学生時代に知り合った黒田清輝の出品した裸体画の展示を援護するために国民新聞に掲載された。久米は、日本が「東洋の美術国」としての地位を維持したいならば、日本の芸術家は西洋の美術史に精通し、裸体画についてのタブーを克服せねばならないと主張する。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | This essay, which was published in *The Kokumin Shimbun* during the 1895 Kyoto National Exposition, was written by Kume Keiichiro in support of a nude painting that had been submitted by the painter Kuroda Seiki, whom he had befriended while the two were art students in Paris. Kume argues that Japanese artists need to become conversant in western art history and in particular, overcome their reticence about public representations of the nude if Japan is to retain its status as a leading artistic nation. | |||||||||
