الأوروبي إلى بروز ظاهرة يمكن تسميتها \"الإقصائية في التنويز\" لدى المناهضين للهجرة، و التي تختلف عن الإقصائية التقليدية القائمة على العنصرية أو القومية و يميل المناهضون للهجرة اليوم، بسبب اعتقادهم القيم الليبرالية (التحررية) إلى رفض الأشخاص الذين لا يشاطرونهم هذا القيم ( كالمسلمين الذين لا يقبلون أفكار المساواة بين الجنسين و الفصل بين الدين و الدولة و حرية التعبير). تعرض اليهود في أوروبا في العصر الحديث للانتقاد مباشرة من قبل الليبراليين، فرغم أن المفكرين في أوروبا يؤكدون على منح الحقيق المدبية لليهود إلا أنهم ضد اليهودية بذاتها لأنها لا تتوافق مع الليبرالية، وردًا على منح مثل هذا الانتقاد لليهودية الحديثة عن فكرة أن المساواة في الأحوال المدنية و التقاليد اليهودية يمكن الحفاظ عليها معًا، و يقف مينديلسون بصراحة ضد أولئك الذين يطالبون بأن يغير اليهود نمط حياتهم الديني كشرط لمنحهم المساواة
