| 内容記述 | In recent years, there has been a series of global conferences that have been organised by the UN with the aim of bringing sustainable development to the forefront of the international agenda. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of these summits with regard to the governance of environmental and development issues. In doing so it considers what good governance is, and how it relates to the sustainable development. The paper concludes that these summits have been successful in moving the agenda on sustainable development forward but that a general lack of implementation calls into question the system of global governance and in particular leads one support calls for institutional reforms, improved mechanisms to engage key stakeholders, and more concrete goals for action. It is also clear that additional `external' factors that include expanding globalisation and liberalisation of trade, have done much to limit the effectiveness of these summits. | |||||
