| 内容記述 | 本稿は、新渡戸稲造のクエーカー信仰について、その信仰内容をニューソートとの関連から精査・吟味することで明らかにする。一般的に、「新渡戸＝クエーカー＝キリス ト者」として、様々な新渡戸研究者は、複雑なクエーカー史に踏み込むことなく、単なる辞書的定義で「クエーカー信仰」を捉え、新渡戸について論じることが多い。しかしながら、新渡戸の信仰は、伝統的なクエーカー信仰とは全く異なるものであり、キリスト教を換骨奪胎し、ニューソートといった他の思想と融合・折衷させたものである。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This paper examines the characteristics of Inazō Nitobe's Quaker faith by analyzing its teachings in relation to New Thought. In general, researchers of Nitobe tend to discuss him as a Christian Quaker according to the simple dictionary definition of "Quakers," without considering the complicated history of Quakers and their religious diversity. These researchers simply assumed that Nitobeʼs faith could be identified with the faith advocated by George Fox, the founder of the Religious Society of Friends, by ignoring historical changes and likening Fox and Nitobe to each other beyond the gulf of historical time. However, this paper reveals that Nitobe's faith is completely different from the traditional Quaker faith, and that it is rather a kind of fusion of Christianity and other religious ideas such as New Thought. | |||||||||||||
