Specifically, we will read Genesis 28:10-22, Judges 4-5, and Exodus 14-15 to consider the process of formation of the text (in part). Genesis 28:10-22 is thought to have been originally prepared as a story about the origins of Bethel, but then it was incorporated into the story of Jacob. Judges 4-5 and Exodus 14-15 are each composed of a story (prose form) and a song (poetic form). By comparing the descriptions of the stories and the songs, we speculate that the story is an interpretation of the
