| 内容記述 | 本論の目的は、ウィリアム・ジェイムズの言う「真理」という概念に照準を定めて、その要諦を抉り出すところにある。ジェイムズにあっては、「真理」は、観念と行為が創出する一連のできごとの連接的な推移であり、「真実化」という観念の運動である。そこでは真であることと有用であることが結合しており、それを可能にしているのは、「真理」を一つの動態的な経験として捉えようとするジェイムズの経験主義的視座である。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This paper aims to clarify the meaning of the concept of truth that William James emphasizes in Pragmatism. According to James, truth signifies the conjunctive transition of a sequence of events brought about by our ideas and the acts based upon them--the movement of ideas known as verification. It is a process that unites two conditions: being true and being useful. In other words, through verification, we can assert that our ideas are true because they are useful, or alternatively, they are useful because they are true. In this way, James regards truth as a dynamic experience. This conception of truth reflects James's empiricist perspective on truth. | |||||||||||||
