| 内容記述 | 本論の目的は、ジョン・スチュアート・ミルが主著『論理学体系』の中で考究している帰納という論理的操作に一定の光を当てて、ミルが表立っては取り上げていない数学的帰納の位置づけを闡明するところにある。数学的帰納は、ミルの言う帰納が抱えている論理的飛躍を回避してはいるものの、真正の帰納が備えている特性を保有している。その点で、数学的帰納は、帰納という呼称に値する論理的な推論であるのである。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Ths paper aims to show the logical status of mathematical induction from the perspective of induction which John Stuart Mill explains in A System of Logic. Indeed, Mill does not explicitly focus on mathematical induction, which modern logicians and mathematicians have formulated through the development of logic in the 20th century. But Mill's conception of induction throws significant light on mathematical induction. Though it does not relate to a logical leap like induction, mathematical logic has the main characteristic of induction that Mill points out in A System of Logic. Mathematical logic is a logical argument that deserves to be called induction. | |||||||||||||
