Recently, such horns are used as primary radiators for reflectarray antennas and transmitarray antennas. Detailed dimensions of the horn including phase center are finally determined by numerical calculation and optimization. This paper proposes formulation based on the dominant beam mode for obtaining the primary horns. As examples, a design procedure for a primary horn with specified dimensions (an axial length or a flare angle, or a distance between the horn aperture and the reflector) and a study on primary radiators with different phase centers are also
