 note = {苦は何に由来するのだろうか。自身によるのか、他によるのか、自と他の両者によるのか、あるいは無因なのか。『十二門論』の著者は、これら4つの選言肢を否定することで、苦の存在そのものを否定する。ここでいう「自身」とは、苦それ自身あるいは個我(プドガラ=アートマン)であり、「他」とは、前生における個我あるいは主宰神(自在天)を指す。このうちの特に主宰神の否定が、第10 章「〔苦の〕作者の考察」の主題である。この『十二門論』は、かつては、『中論』によって空の哲学(空観)を確立したナーガールジュナ(龍樹、150-250 年頃)に帰せられていたが、筆者は、ナーガールジュナの哲学に基づいておそらく4 世紀頃に書かれたものと考えている。この頃、インドにおいては有神論が発展し、とりわけ論理学をその体系の中核に置くニヤーヤ学派はその理論体系に有神論を導入していた。創造神は、どこに身を置いて、どのように、この世界をつくったのか。身体を持っているのか。創造に際して材料や道具はもちいたのか。人間の運命を支配しているのか。無神論者によって提起されるこれらの論難は素朴なものではあるが、後世の有神論者と無神論者との間で戦わされた熾烈な論争へとつながっていく。, Who or what makes suffering in our world? Is it self-caused, other-caused, both self-caused and other-caused, or non-caused? The author of The Twelve Gate Treatise, denying these four possible ways of viewing the cause of suffering, asserts there is no suffering. The term self here means suffering itself and one's Self (ātman or svapudgala). The term other means one's Self in the former existence (parapudgala) and God the Creator (Īśvara). The refutation of the existence of the Creator is the main theme in the tenth chapter `the maker'. Formerly scholars attributed this treatise to Nāgārjuna (ca.150-250), who established the philosophy of Voidness especially in his main work The Fundamental Verses on the Middle. the writer thinks this treatise was written by some other person on the base of Nāgārjuna's philosophy, probably in the fourth century, when theism flourished in India and philosophical schools, especially Naiyāyika logicians, introduced it into their theory. How and where does the Creator make the world? Does He have a body? Does He use any materials and tools in making the world? Does He determine all of the human destinies?
