This paper proposes a method to enhance the efficiency of coding procedures for data obtained through open-ended survey questions. Drawing on the concept of variable recoding, it introduces a technique for systematically converting information on university names and academic disciplines into unified numerical codes. The study further highlights the importance of reshaping data into a tidy format as a crucial step in preprocessing and data management. To demonstrate the practical application of the proposed approach, the coding of responses concerning career aspirations from a survey of high school students is presented as an example.
