In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey among psychiatric social workers who practiced at the psychiatric medical institution and participated in the case study session dealing with a client's suicide case. We then examined compassion fatigue and posttraumatic growth that result from a client's suicide or suicide attempt. The results revealed that, although more than half of psychiatric social workers had experienced a client's suicide or suicide attempt and felt psychological conflict, such experiences did not directly turn into growth experiences.
