近代日本におけるキリスト教児童文学の受容 : Peep of Dayシリーズの翻訳をめぐって キンダイ ニホン ニオケル キリストキョウ ジドウ ブンガク ノ ジュヨウ : Peep of Day シリーズ ノ ホンヤク オ メグッテ The acceptance of Christian literature for children in modern Japan : a study of translation of ​the Peep of day series 40759081 DA18763294 柿本, 真代 カキモト, マヨ Kakimoto, Mayo open access DA00394518 同志社大学人文科学研究所 Institute for Study of Humanities & Social Sciences, Doshisha University 909.3 児童文学 キリスト教 翻訳 読書 リテラシー children's literature Christianity translation reading literacy 本稿は児童文学研究の観点から、イギリスの児童文学Peep of Dayシリーズの受容と、日本における翻訳とその影響について考察した。Peep of Dayとその続編Line upon Line、Precept upon Preceptは教派や地域を問わず、明治初期の宣教師による教育活動に頻繁に用いられていたことが明らかになった。また、長老派のカロザースやアメリカン・ボードのジュリア・ギューリックがそれぞれ翻訳を手掛けたが、訳文はともに漢字を読めない人々にも読めるような工夫がなされおり、伝道を目的としながら同時に子どもや女性に書物を届けようとする試みでもあった。 This paper aimed to reveal the process of the acceptance of the Peep of Day series to clarify the influence of the evangelistic work on children's literature in modern Japan. The Peep of Day series were written by Favell Lee Mortimer in 19th century England, to impart religious instruction to infants. In early Meiji period, the American missionaries often used the Peep of Day series as textbooks of English and Bible. The missionaries translated the Peep of Day series in colloquial style with less Chinese character for uneducated people.
